Wearing the Focals

Things never stay the same. It doesn’t matter which product we think about; whether it is clothing or food, housing or socializing, trends keep on changing over time. The same rule applies to prescription glasses. Technology and human being’s strong need for all things new has resulted in many changes in this sector too. Think back to your grandmother or rather great-grandmother’s time. In her old age, she used to have 2 different pair of glasses, one for the near-sightedness and one for being able to see far. Today, you can have both visions in one pair of glasses.

Bifocals and trifocals are commonly worn these days. The most popular design in bifocals is called the flat top (FT) or straight top (ST) design. With an FT-28, for example, you can be very comfortable for both your near and distance visions. But, if you’re concerned about your immediate vision i.e. the distance at arm’s length, you can also go for trifocals. These have a thin ribbon-shaped lens segment directly above the near segment, which makes it easy to concentrate on the objects in your immediate line of vision. Again, just as bifocals, a FT-28 or FT-35 design falls in the post popular variety. The right vaifocals depend on your eyesight needs and your age.

If you are over 40, you might have started suffering from symptoms of age-related near-sightedness while your distance vision might be perfectly fine otherwise. If that is the situation, let us help you with a free eye-test first. Specsdirect2u offers a variety of varifocal lenses to provide not just 2 but actually 3 different visions in one lens. You can visit any of our outlets in Glasgow or, if you like, we can provide you an eye test at your choice of location, at absolutely no charge.

Remember, when going for varifocals, it is extremely important to select the right opticians. The right qualifications and expertise will help you find out how many visions you need in your varifocals. We can also test your eyes to check if your near-sightedness is the result of some other complications or problems. As with any other medical problem, correct diagnosis is the root for having the right treatment.

Once you have a prescription for the lenses, you can then browse through our large range of designer or budget frames to select one that suits you best.

Eye Exams… a MUST-HAVE for Children

Have you noticed your child squinting at objects? Does he complain of headaches or an itching in his eyes? Be alert! This could mean a low vision problem.

Low vision, sometimes, occurs naturally in children. Other than genetics, there can be many possible reasons for this problem among the newborns. A delay in child delivery results in lack of oxygen, which, in turn, can affect the child’s eyesight. Similarly, inappropriate handling or less than satisfactory pre-natal care can also have several dire consequences including brain trauma and weakened eyesight.

The important thing here is to assure a proper and timely eye exam for your child, at an early age, so that the child starts wearing prescription glasses with a UV protection factor before his or her eyesight degenerates any further.  Safe estimates say that around 5-10 pre-schoolers out of every 100 and 25% of all school-aged children in UK suffer from low vision problem. Most of these children can be completely cured with treatment and vision glasses if diagnosed early. The simple reason is the child’s higher internal response and adaptability to the treatment at a younger age.

We, at Specsdirect2u, understand the importance of having a proper diagnosis and treatment for your child at an early age. Optometric studies suggest children should undergo their first eye exam at an early age of 6 months. The next eye exam should be at 3 years of age and then again, when they are 5-6 years old. We offer comprehensive eye exam services at all our four locations in Glasgow.  However, if you do not wish for people to know your child’s eye problems then we completely understand your need for privacy and can visit for your child’s eye exam at your home.

Have a proper diagnosis with us and then we will provide you your choice of frames and lenses for your child. In the event that your child’s problem cannot be cured with glasses alone, we will guide you to a reliable eye doctor for further advice.

Even if your child’s vision does not need correction, it is always good to have their eyes tested every 2 years or so. Also, being frank and honest with us would go a long way towards getting your child a proper diagnosis and treatment. Tell us if you have a family history of eye related problems or if your child has had any surgeries or treatments before coming to us for an eye exam. If you have any questions to ask, please do not hesitate to give us a call or visit. We can also be contacted online for an appointment.

The perfect sunglasses for you

Once upon a time, sunglasses might have been invented as a need to protect eyes from sunlight only. But that was the very beginning. Today, a pair of sunglasses is more than just a protective means. It is a style, an ever-changing fad, a shield for the emotionally expressive eyes and a weapon for observing others without having them realise it.

Don’t believe us? Watch all those movies with bodyguards and intelligence forces and notice the sunglasses that almost all of them wear. And, so do all the stylish ladies that you see around any time of the day. If not shielding their eyes, it’s definitely up there working as a head band or hanging from the neck of their shirts. Gives such an edge to their personality!
How about you? Do you have a pair of sunglasses to match your personality and still add something extra, namely flair? Specsdirect2u has an indefinite range of sunglasses to match every personality. We are good at what we do, simply because we realise what it takes to select a perfect pair or may be 2 of them. We have a wide range of budget sunglasses but at the same time, we offer you popular brands too.

Get UV Protection!
With sunglasses, it is a must to have 99-100% UV protection as your main consideration. Your eyes are precious and like every precious object, they need good protection. If your glasses do not protect them from sunlight, they are worthless.
It is also good to choose sunglasses with frames large enough to cover the region around your eyes so that the UV rays cannot come in contact with your eyes from the sides.

Price doesn’t always promise Quality.
It is important to look for labels and buy sunglasses from reliable opticians. The simple thing is, with the right opticians, only price is not the primary indicator of quality.

Choosing the lens colour!
There is a wide spectrum of colours, shades and tints available with us whether you want simple sunglasses or the prescription ones. Try different pairs and then decide which colour and tint you are most comfortable with. Gray, green and brown are usually healthier.

Any distortion or blurriness?
Gaze at different distances and objects of varying heights to make sure that the quality of the lens is good. If you see any distortion or experience blurriness then those glasses are definitely not suitable.

We can also convert your normal pair into UV protected glasses without going for darker shades.
